The sub-national life tables available from the archived pages have been smoothed by applying Ewbank’s 4-parameter model life table system to the observed mortality rates, and using the English Life Table 1991 as the reliable standard. A Stata® command to perform this procedure “ewblft” has been developed by the Cancer Research UK Cancer Survival Group.
