Could you give a brief introduction to yourself and your work?
Hello, my name is Koki Shimizu, and I am a haematologist. I joined LSHTM this October as a Joint-PhD student between Nagasaki University and LSHTM. Before joining LSHTM, I was working at Nagasaki University Hospital, treating haematological cancer patients who require stem cell transplant. My research interest is in inequalities in survival outcome among haematological cancer patients, and haematological cancer in Sub-Saharan Africa region.
What are you most looking forward to during your time with ICON at LSHTM?
I am blessed to have so many wonderful colleagues around me with expertise and passion in cancer epidemiology. They are all very kind to share their knowledge and help me in any way. I am just looking forward to this wonderful, adventurous new journey in the field of cancer epidemiology.
Is there something that might surprise people to know about you?
I was unfortunate enough to break half of my face while playing rugby in college. It was so bad that a plastic surgeon had to reconstruct my face by looking at the other half to make it look symmetrical.
Do you have a favourite album, film and/or novel?
I do not listen to music much, but I like reading Japanese novels by Shuichi Yoshida who is from Nagasaki.
